Your Go-To Resource for Learning Architectural Sketching

I Help architects, designers, and hobby sketchers
improve their traditional and digital drawing
skills to better present their ideas and observations.

In today's world focused on technology, we sometimes forget how such simple tools as pen and paper
can help us brainstorm and communicate ideas, quickly iterate a design, solve a problem,
or simply understand a perceived object or our own thoughts.

AS FEATURED IN:

Architects and designers are busy people. We don’t have time in between all the planning, meetings, and technical drawing to learn how to sketch.

Architecture schools and universities don’t teach traditional sketching and drawing skills as much anymore as it’s been overshadowed by technology. And while technological progress is great, sketching is still so important. It can help any designer to communicate a brilliant idea more quickly and effectively than almost anything else.

Sometimes this is using the humble pen and paper. Other times an iPad and an app can give an idea the polish it needs to impress a client and get sign-off.

I’ve designed the courses and books on Sketch Like an Architect to help everyone, from architects to engineers, interior designers, arborists and everything in between, even those who just love to sketch for fun.

And that’s the thing— learning to sketch should be fun! I hope that’s what you find here at Sketch Like an Architect — guidance that’s enjoyable, useful and easy to follow.

I’m looking forward to embarking on this learning journey with you.

Hi David! I just wanted to say thank you for your work and the ‘Sketch Like an Architect’ PDF Handbook. I’m a landscape architecture student with no drawing background, and your instruction has really helped me come into my own. I regularly refer you to my classmates!
— Kimberly Ferrara, landscape architecture student
For me this course was exactly what I was looking for - a course that taught basic techniques that I could use to convey what I saw or imagined for my own sketches. The added PDF with references and practice exercise is pure knowledge gold.

DESIGNER = PROBLEM-SOLVER + COMMUNICATOR

Designer is someone who solves problems and then communicates solutions - that is my favourite definition of a designer. I like it because of 2 reasons - it’s super short and it’s very truthful. The project ‘Sketch Like an Architect’ was created because I believe sketching dramatically helps designers in both of these disciplines.

The mission of the ‘Sketch Like an Architect’ project is to share values and benefits of hand-sketching for architects, designers, and hobby sketchers and to offer high-quality resources for further learning and improvement in this area.
